Smita
Smita is on a myth busting mission to breakdown western barriers to Indian food. Quality and authenticity are non-negotiable principles engrained by her grandmother at an early age. Daily market trips to procure the freshest ingredients and frequent visits to the mill for the perfect flour ground for flatbreads are common place. Managing a kitchen and a family became second nature when hardships forced Smita to put these learnings into action - and she hasn’t looked back since.
She’s a professor of flavors and has been hosting cooking classes and social gatherings for years through her company, Smita’s Cookery. What started as a blog has garnered a strong following and has been featured in many local and national publications and media spots.
Smita’s dishes lean plant based - sometimes vegan - but she loves to mix in chicken, lamb, goat and fish for the meat-seeking palate. It really comes down to being aware of what you put into your body - you can count on a well balanced, heathy meal that features ingredients that will not compromise on taste.
Smita’s favorite dishes to eat are in the Indian comfort food category - specifically, dal and rice with kale greens and a dollop of ghee…open your mind, it’s good stuff! Drawing inspiration from music, traveling and exploration, Smita is ready to share her knowledge of homestyle Indian cuisine and open your eyes to colors and spice blends that will steal the show at your next event!
